SOLUTION

GIVEN

  • Diameter of human hair is 9 x 10⁻⁵ m.

  • Diameter of spider's silk is 3 x 10⁻⁶ m.

TO DETERMINE

How much greater is the diameter of human hair than the diameter of a spider's silk?

EVALUATION

Here it is given that Diameter of human hair is 9 x 10⁻⁵ m.

Diameter of spider's silk is 3 x 10⁻⁶ m.

So the difference is

= ( 9 x 10⁻⁵ - 3 x 10⁻⁶ ) m

= ( 9 x 10⁻⁵ - 0.3 x 10⁻⁵ ) m

= 8.7 × 10⁻⁵ m

Again

( 9 x 10⁻⁵ ÷ 3 x 10⁻⁶ )

= ( 9 x 10⁻⁵ ÷ 0.3 x 10⁻⁵ )

= 30

So the diameter of human hair is 30 times the diameter of a spider's silk
