Dear Diary

What an unusual day full of shocks and surprises! Early in the morning, we received the telegram bearing the demise of my father-in-law; we rushed in haste to my sister-in-law's place, leaving Jimmy at home with the maid. There surprise after surprise awaited us! First of all, my sister-in-law appeared to be behaving suspiciously! She was not bothered about her father's death! She appeared to be hiding something from us. As it came to light later, how mean of her to have sneaked the grandfather's things before our arrival to secure them before we could claim any of them! To be honest, all of us were more concerned about our own share in his will than being sorry and grief-stricken for his death! We preferred taking tea to going to his room and seeing him!
How shocked we were all when we saw him climb down the stairs! We thought it was his ghost! How we fumbled, hid, and felt embarrassed! But the truth came out! It hurt him! He disowned all of us! He is right. We behaved greedily and selfishly. He gave us the worst of shock by declaring his marriage and decision of altering the will. I know he is not going to leave a penny for us!
