Dear diary,
I wanted to tell you that I recently won the best speaker trophy in an interstate debate competition that was held on 13th September. When the teacher told me that I was going for an interstate competition, I was really nervous. She told me about it about 12 days ago. I had been practising for it everyday for 20 minutes. And then the day finally came. I had to be out of the school for the whole day. I had been preparing for it so much but I was still nervous. My teachers and friends wished me luck before I went. I was really pleased to know that the students who were also there said that I had given a really awesome speech but still, you never know. My heart was beating hard when the results came. I was the only one from my school who had won something and that too, the best speaker trophy!

Dear Diary,
Today I feel hard work and perseverance pays! This is my first victory as a debater and I owe a lot to my teacher and my friends.
The day I was asked to register my name for the competition, I was unsure of my ability to face an audience. It was my teacher who encouraged me to write the debate and practice. She said that I had the potential to write and I simply lacked confidence. I spent hours rehearsing my speech and my friends took turns to listen to me and helped me to prepare for the rebuttal round. Today, when I walked on the stage I recalled the words of my teacher, “It is a brilliant piece of work.” I did my best and received the best speaker trophy and huge round of applause at the end was an incredible experience.
I can see myself as a good speaker in life but not without a sense of commitment and perseverance.
