The enzymes of the digestive system works best at  normal temperature of 37°C.

At a temperature below optimum temperature the enzyme becomes inactive and at a temperature above optimum temperature the enzymes get degraded.

Claire's small intestine break down the protein.

Explanation:

  • In the human body, the small intestine is the place where most chemical digestion occurs.
  • Two pancreatic enzymes trypsin and chymotrypsin are responsible for  digestion of the proteins in the small intestine.
  • In Claire's case, her both enzymes trypsin and chymotrypsin were not able to digest protein properly.
  • Because of the malfunction of these enzymes, protein breakdown became slower.
  • As a result of the low rate of digestion, she was getting losing weight even though she was eating well enough.
