Let's talk about policies first.
The Tughlaqs, especially Muhammad bin Tughlaq, had quite sound policies to protect his kingdom against mongol raids. Some of the historical evidences are- the moving of capital city from Delhi to Daulatabad.
Now, let's consider the Khaljis.
They were better in work than words as compared to Tughlaqs, especially Alauddin Khalji, who attacked the Mongol invaders with considerable force. He even appointed strong and efficient governors for North Western provinces of his empire.
