Maidens succeed in Killeen
This past weekend four young ladies from the Jacksonville High School Maidens powerlifting team competed in the state meet held at the Convention Center in Killeen.
Senior Tajae’ Brown led the way for the Maidens, taking home a third place medal in the 220 lb. class. Brown finished with a season best 800 lb. total. She had personal bests in both the squat (320 lbs.) and the deadlift (340 lbs.). She also finished with a bench of 140 lbs.
Juniors Ashley McAnally, Geshe’ Boyd, and Sarah Brand also competed at the meet.
McAnally competed in the 114 lb. class and finished with a total of 550 lbs. She had a squat of 225 lbs., a bench of 85 lbs. and a deadlift of 245 lbs.
Boyd, competed in the 123 lb. class. She finished with a total of 665 lbs. which included a squat of 260 lbs. and personal bests in both the bench (120 lbs.) and deadlift (285 lbs.).
Brand finished with a total of 615 lbs. in the 148 lb. class. She had a squat of 240 lbs., a bench of 115 lbs. and a deadlift of 260 lbs.
Look for these three young ladies to be right back at the state meet next year with a good chance for the gold.
With the season finally coming to an end, the Maidens sure made a splash in just their first year of competition. They finished first in both the Kemp Invitational and Rusk Invitational. They finished second in the Roughrider Invitational at Center. They took home more than 30 medals, 13 of them being gold.
Boyd was named the overall best lifter at the Roughrider Invitational, beating out 32 other competitors. Senior Racheal Speck won first place at the Regional Qualifiers meet in Lindale. The Lady Maidens had seven lifters qualify for the Region III Powerlifting Meet in Brownsboro. Those lifters were: Seniors Rachel Sanders, Speck and Brown and juniors McAnally, Boyd, Brand and Krystal Blakemore.
Other lifters who competed this year were freshmen Megan Chivara, Ashleigh Lewis and Autumn Freeman; sophomores Brittany McAnally; seniors Morgan Ostert and Chelsea Dumas.
The Maidens were coached by Coach Chad Taylor, Coach Chris Dolan and Coach Greg D’Etchevarry.
