Did the new generation is influenced by our culture?
Answers
Every generation thinks that the previous generation and the next generation is vastly different from theirs. But in reality they too share the same hopes and fears that their previous generations had. We want a clean, peaceful and prosperous world. Did our parents want something different? Do our children want something different?
Even today, with technology being so pervasive and accessible, our children still want what we want, what our parents always wanted. To make meaningful relationships with people around them and give and seek friendship, love, attention and approval in a social context. This is basic human nature and it is the universal truth.
When we were children, we have all disobeyed our parents in someway when they asked us not to do something. E.g. When we were told not to touch a hot dish, we still went ahead and did it. Sometimes we do not accept a fact until we experience it. Similarly, if you ask your children to do something, they expect to not just be told, but made to understand the reason behind something they are expected to do in the name of tradition.
We have to imbibe in our children the importance of cleanliness and self discipline; develop in them the qualities of courage, self respect, honesty, trust, integrity, humor, empathy, respect. Teach them how to reflect these good qualities in the way they talk, behave, study, dress, eat, and walk. Practise and allow our children the freedom to think, freedom to believe, freedom to disbelieve, to question, to love. That is culture. And that is and should be our tradition.
