Yes, the prophecy of the astrologer come true at the end of the story. The Tiger King after having killed the hundredth tiger (which was actually killed by King's assistant hunters), went home. After a few days it was Tiger King's son's birthday. He gifted him a wooden tiger. While playing, a sliver from the unfinished wood of the tiger pierced the King's hand. This caused infection in his hand; the infection spread in the entire arm. Surgeons had to be called from Madras. They operated on him but could not save him. Thus, the king died and the cause of his death was the hundredth tiger, though a wooden one.
