Aristotle was a Greek scientist. As we all know that most of the knowledge in the early ages came from Greek. So, Aristotle was also a student of Plato which was among the first institutes of higher learning in west.

He gave the idea that observing physical phenomenon can pave ways for understanding the natural laws governing them.

Thus, his first work in that study was named as physices.
