Concept:

Compound interest:

Interest is applied every time after adding the interest for the previous time period.

Given:

Cost of diesel = Rs. 4 per litre.

Cost of petrol = Rs. 5.23 per litre

Price of diesel rise by 10% a month

Find:

The time period after which  a litre of diesel cost more than a litre of petrol

Solution:

We have:

P = 4

r = 10 %

t = n

And amount should be more than 5.23

ATQ:

4 ( 1 + 10/100)ⁿ > 5.23

4 (1.1)ⁿ > 5.23

1.1ⁿ > 1.3075

By hit and trial method, we get that

n = 3

Therefore, we get that after 3 months, the price of a litre of diesel cost more than a litre of petrol.
