Given:

P1 = 1 bar

V1 =  V

V2 = V/16

V3 = 2 V2

γ= 1.4

To Find :

The mean effective pressure of the cycle.

Solution:

P1V1^γ = P2V2^γ

we can find P2 from,

P2 = (16/1)^1.4

     = 48.5 bar

P2,P3 = 48.5 bar

Similarly to find P4

P4 = P3 * (V3/V4)^1.4

     = 48.5 * ((1/8)^1.4)

     = 2.63 bar

Peff = Work done/ V1 - V2

       = (P2*(V3/V2 - 1) + (P3(V3/V2) - P4(V4/V2))/ (γ-1) - (-P1(V1/V2) + P2)/γ-1)/V1 - V2

       = 48.5*(2-1) +(48.5*-2.63*16)/0.4 - (-1*16+48.5)/0.4)/15

       = 6.94 bar

Therefore, The mean effective pressure is 6.94 bar.
