There are 2 different types of fiber -- soluble and insoluble. Both are important for health, digestion, and preventing diseases. They are Soluble fiber and insoluble fibre.

Dietary fiber consists of non-starch polysaccharides and other plant components such as cellulose, resistant starch, resistant dextrins, inulin, lignins, chitins (in fungi), pectins, beta-glucans, and oligosaccharides.

There is some concern that a high intake of fiber may impair the absorption of minerals, especially calcium (5,6). It is postulated that dietary fiber binds with polyvalent mineral ions forming unabsorbable fiber-mineral complexes (5,6).
