Dietary fibres don't have any nutritional value but our body needs them !
But why?
- First of all, dietary fibres are indigestible, water absorbing substance (e.g lettuce, spinach, etc.)
- Now, when they are ingested, they absorb moisture from the gastrointestinal tract, swell up and distend the tract. This causes mechanical distension, leading to increased peristalsis and evacuation of stools.
- So, even if they don't have any nutritional value, they are needed for easy evacuation of stools.
Now, if a person doesn't take proper dietary fibres, he may suffer from:
- Abdominal griping pain
- Constipation
- Anorexia, etc.
Hope It Helps.
