Smog is a noxious mixture of particles and gases which is usually found in urban areas. 
Smoke is the visible vapor, gas,and fine particles given off by burning something.

simply, smoke is released from vehicles. it pollutes atmosphere. when smoke gets mixed with fog it becomes smog
