Clay is very small in size and thus doesn't leave any space gap between the particles. The water holding capacity of a Clay is very high.
Gravel is a loose rock greater than 2mm to 63mm. It is produced by crushing rocks mechanically.

Gravel soil consists up of many types of soil (mixture of all the categories of soil) and clay soil has a tendency to hold more water rather than any other soil.
