In contrast, soft water contains much less calcium and magnesium than hard water. Soft water has less than 1 grain per gallon, or 17 mg/l, of dissolved minerals. Soft water lacks the mineral taste of hard water and does not leave residue on skin, dishes or appliances.

hard water is formed when acalcium and magnesium salts dissolve in the water while soft water is water without impurities. hard water can be classified as having either temporary hardeness in which the calcium hydrogen carbonate can be removed by boiling and permanent hardness in which calcium and magnesium sulphate cannot be removed through boiling
