SPEED
Speed is distance traveled per unit of time. It is how fast an object is moving. Speed is the scalar quantity that is the magnitude of the velocity vector. It doesn't have a direction.

r = d / t

where

r is the rate, or speed (sometimes denoted as v, for velocity, as in this kinematics article)
d is the distance moved
t is the time it takes to complete the movement

VELOCITY
The velocity of an object is the rate of change of its position with respect to a frame of reference, and is a function of time. Velocity is equivalent to a specification of its speed and direction of motion.

r = d / t

where

r is the rate, or speed (sometimes denoted as v, for velocity)
d is the distance moved
t is the time it takes to complete the movement
