The heart has 4 chambers. The top 2 are the auricles (often called atria) and the bottom 2 are the much larger ventricles. The atria fill 1st, then contract at the same time, squeezing the blood into the ventricles. Then the ventricles make a much bigger contraction -also together- sending the blood out to the lungs to get oxygen, and to the rest of the body. The 2 contractions make the "blub blub.....blub blub....blub blub sound of your heart.

Auricles refers to the upper chambers of the heart that receives impure blood from veins auricles is the ear shaped appendage to the atrium of the heart. auricle is the upper chamber of the heart.

ventricle is the chamber on the left side of the heart that receives arterial blood from the left atrium and releases into the aorta.
