What is the difference between adolescence and adulthood?

Adolescence is that magical transition from being a child, boy or girl, to an adult, man or woman.  It starts as early as age 11 or 12 and usually ends around age 20 to 21.  Puberty is one of the early onsets of adolescence, when the sex organs mature and become fully functional in terms of sexual reproduction.  It is at this time the sex organs, testes in boys, ovaries in girls, start mass production of sex hormones, which elicit sex-related changes in each respective sex.  For boys, they catch the girls in terms of height, and even overtake them, adding as much as an entire foot to their body height.  Voices crack as they deepen, muscles become larger and more well pronounced.  Body hair on the chest, arms, and legs appear.  Shaving facial hair is often a rite of passage for young men during adolescence.  For girls, the onset of their monthly cycle, known as menstruation, marks the beginning of the journey from girl to woman.  The ovaries secrete both estrogen and progesterone, causing female sex characteristics to appear and develop.  The development of breasts and widening of hips for the birth canal are typical adolescence happenings for females.  Body hair is another telltale sign of adolescent development among females.  All these changes keep occuring into a young persons early twenties, which marks young adulthood.
