RED BLOOD CORPUSCLES

They are red in colour .

Size of each RBC is about 7.2 micrometer.

Their number is 4 to 6 million

Nucleus is absent..(That is why they are called corpuscles).

Their cells contain haemoglobin.

Most of the cell organelles are absent in these cells.

They transport oxygen and to some extent carbon dioxide.

They are of only one type.

Life span of each RBC is 120 days.

WHITE BLOOD CELLS

They are colourless.

Size of WBC varies between 10 to 20 micrometer.

Their number is 6000 to 9000mm sq.

The shape of WBC is round to amoeboid

Nucleus us present .

The cells do not contain haemoglobin.

Cell organelles are present in these cells .

They are of five types.

Life span of each WBC is generally shorter (for hours to four days).

The function us to defence immunity.

The main difference between RBC and WBC is their respective function.

RBC is responsible for transport of respiratory gases (oxygen and carbon dioxide) while WBC provides defense mechanism to the body for fighting against pathogens. Also the RBC are red in colour due to presence of hemoglobin while it is absent in WBC.
