In Simple leaves, a bud lies in it axil. whereas in compound leaves, a bud lie in its axil of the whole leaf.

they have single lamina(leaf blade).
when lamina is entire or when incised the incitions do not touch the midrib.their leaf blade is undivided

compound leaves
they have smaller and seperate leaf blades. when the incitions of the lamina reaches the midrib breaking into number of leaflets it is a compound leaf.the stipules can be found in the base of the leaves.
