Distance is the actual distance travelled by an object. Displacement is the shortest distance travelled. Distance has only magnitude whereas as displacement has both magnitude and direction. Distance is a scalar quantity. Displacement is a vector quantity. Distance can never be zero. Displacement can be zero. Distance is always positive. Displacement can be positive or negative

Displacement is the length of the straight line path b/w the initial & final positions of the objects. Displacement = average velocity x time taken. Displacement is a vector. Displacement has both magnitude & direction.
