Distance is the actual distance travelled by an object. Displacement is the shortest distance travelled. Distance has only magnitude whereas as displacement has both magnitude and direction. Distance is a scalar quantity. Displacement is a vector quantity. Distance can never be zero. Displacement can be zero. Distance is always positive. Displacement can be positive or negative

Distance is the actual path traversed by an object. Distance = speed x time taken. Distance is a scalar. Distance has magnitude but no direction.                                                                                                             Displacement is the length of the straight line path b/w the initial & final positions of the objects. Displacement = average velocity x time taken. Displacement is a vector. Displacement has both magnitude & direction.
