Plants with seeds having single cotyledons...are called monocots
Plants with seeds having two cotyledons
are called.. Dicots

  • Generally monocot seeds are endospermic but some as in Orchids are non-endospermic.

  • Examples: Wheat,Rice,Grass,etc.

2.Dicotyledons:

  • Dicots are characterized by seeds having two cotyledons.

  • They have reticulate venation in leaves.
  • Posses tap root system.

  • Has Tetramerous or Pentamerous flowers i.e.having four or five members in each floral whorls.

  • Generally dicot seeds are non-endospermic.

  • Examples:Mango,Sunflower,etc.
