Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) and Abortion, both are same.

MTP: Intentional or voluntary termination of pregnancy before full term is called Medical Termination of Pregnancy or induced abortion.

Conditions of MTP:

  • Medical- When pregnancy might endanger to mother's life.
  • Eugenic- When child being born with serious illness.
  • Humanitarian- Where pregnancy is result of r ape
  • Socioeconomic- If mother is having 2 to 3 child.
  • Failure of contraceptive devices.

Why MTP?

  1. To get rid of unwanted pregnancies
  2. Due to casual unprotected intercourse
  3. Failure of contraceptive used during coitus

MTPs are also essential in certain cases where continuation of the pregnancy could be harmful or even fatal either to mother or to the foetus or both.
