Geothermal energy is heat rising from a cored hole in the earths crust. The heat rises to the surface in the form af a hot wind, turns a turbine, which then continues like any other power generation technique i.e hydroelectric, wind turbine/ wind mill. Geothermal is very expensive. At this time it is not cost effective or sustainable.

However the waste removal and storage of the radioactive material is a serious environmental issue. It is cost effective, but extremely volatile and temperamental.
