A dry cell is a one in which the electrolyte is not liquid but a a gel or paste. A battery is a number of cells in series, eg a 12V volt car battery has six 2 volt cells in series. The word battery is frequently misused, when used to refer to a single cell (such as an AA or LR6 cell).
