Answer:
Explanation:
1) Speed is the measure of distance covered by an object in unit time. The SI unit of speed is m/s. Also, speed has nothing to do with direction. So we can also call speed as a scalar quantity; a quantity that has only magnitude and does not care about direction.
Velocity is same as speed but unlike speed, direction plays a very crucial role in velocity. In other words, velocity is speed with direction. Just like speed, the SI unit of velocity is m/s. As direction is important here, so velocity can also be called as vector quantity; a quantity that has both magnitude and direction.
2) Distance is the "total" path covered by an object and so, it can never be zero. It can only be calculated if an object has moved through a distance. Just like speed, it has only magnitude and so it is a scalar quantity.
On the other hand, displacement is the shortest route between the initial and final position of the object. For example, an object starts from A and covers 5km to reach point B, and after that, it comes back to its initial position. So, in this case the distance covered will be AB+BA that is 5+5=10km. But as the initial and final position of the object is same, so displacement will be zero. Displacement is a vector quantity, because it has both magnitude and direction.
3) When an object covers equal distance in equal intervals of time, the object is said to be in uniform motion. For example, an object covers 2m in 1sec, then another 2m in another 1sec and if this continues, the object is said to be in uniform motion.
But when an object covers unequal distance in equal intervals of time, the object is said to possess non-uniform motion. For example, an object covers 2m in 1sec, then 3m in another 1sec and after that 5m in the 3rd sec, then the object is said to have non-uniform motion.
