Doesn't anyone realize that he said "mAh" ? I think he may be confusing the mAh with NiMH, but the clarification of his question is the answer. the mAh (milliamp hours) is the answer. Whichever has more mAh is generally going to work longer. There are some Lithium AA batteries, but these are not Li-Ion and not rechargeable. Look for the mAh rating, which is the rating of how much energy a battery can produce. For some types of uses a lower mAh battery may produce better operation (such as camera flashes or other high watt / low duration uses) but generally just check the mAh. For AA rechargeables it seems like a high mAh NiMH is the only real choice now though
