There are many differences between the kingdom Animalia and the plantae kingdom. Although being quite different they do share similarities such as both being multi-cellular. New genetic classification keys place the plant kingdom and the animal kingdom in the same category.

The plant kingdom consists of organisms which posses the ability to generate their own food through a process called photosynthesis. The Animalia kingdom is not capable of this process so they are obligated to obtain food from others.

Plants are usually distinguished from animals because they possess a chlorophyll, and they are usually fixed in one spot. Also they have no nervous system unlike animals or sensory organs so they respond slowly to stimuli. They have rigid cell walls made up of cellulose. In addition, plants grow continually throughout life and have no maximum size or characteristic form in the adult, as do animals. Plants reproduce differently than animals and have very different cell structure. (there are some exceptions)
