1. a FIELD is a single bit of information about a person, an event or entity, like name, age or postal address.
2. When we put together a set of logically related FIELDS about a particular person, entity or event together, we get a RECORD.
3. Several such logically related records make up a DATA FILE, like records of all employees in the production department, orĀ all customers in the southern zone.
4. Several logically related DATA FILES make up a DATABASE. Like customer details file, customer sales file, product details file, products returned file etc.
A RECORD may have n-number of FIELDS; similarly a DATA FILE may have n-number of RECORDS, and a DATABASE may have n-number of DATA FILES.
