Reforestation refers to establishment of forest on land that had recent tree cover, whereas afforestation refers to land that has been without forest for much longer. A variety of definitions differentiate between these two processes.

Difference between afforestation and reforestation :

1. Afforestion is the process in which we plant more and more trees whereas reforestation is the process in which we plant trees in the areas where they were previously depleted.

2. Afforestation involved planting of trees in those areas which were never covered with forests whereas reforestation involved planting of trees in those areas which were once covered with forests.
