Hi!

Answer

MERCURY
1) it is a shinning, silvery white liquid that can be seen very easily
2) it does not stick to the wall of the thermometre.
3)it has uniform expansion and contraction. thus it can easily record the temperature of the body without changing the temperature of the body. 4) the freezing point of mercury is (- 39ºC). the boiling point of mercury is (357ºC)

ALCOHOL
1)alcohol expands more than mercury for the same rise and fall in the temperature. thus it can temperature more accurately than mercury.
2) alcohol can be brightely coloured and hence can be seen very easily in the glass capilary tube.
3) the freezing point of alchohol is less than (-100 ºC) .
4) the boiling point of alcohol is ( 78ºC).
