Heya
Alkali and alkaline earth metals belong to S-block elements.
1. Nature of metals -
Alkali metals are soft in nature when compared to alkaline earth metals
2. Oxidation state -
alkali earth metals exhibit an oxidation state of +1. Alkaline earth metals which have two electrons in the outermost s-orbital exhibit an oxidation state of +2.
3. Reactivity with Nitrogen -
alkali metals do not react with nitrogen directly. Alkaline earth metals combine with nitrogen directly and form nitrides.

valance : All the alkali metals have an electron in their outermost shell and all the alkaline earth metals have two outer electrons. To achieve the noble gas configuration, alkali metals need to lose one electron (valence is “one”), whereas alkaline earth metals need to remove two electrons (valence is “two”).
