- Personal Development Model: Personal models begin from the point of view of the individual's self. The key focus of this family is individual awareness and the creation of a distinctive personality. Models in a particular family are seeking to help them realize their own selves, so that students can "shape their future". The network of personal models pays careful attention to human perspectives & aims to promote "productive interdependence", raise people's self-awareness and a sense of "responsibility" for their "own destinies".
- Behaviour Modification Model: The improvement in conduct is the main goal of this generation. The position taken is that "human beings" are "self-correcting communication systems" which change actions in response to knowledge on how effectively tasks are treated. The role of defined goals, observable behaviour, clearly delineated tasks and techniques, "feedback & reinforcement" are the underpinnings of models in the behavioural family.
