Gene- Gene is the unit of inheritance which can be transferred from one generation to another through gametes and regulate the expression of a particular character. Hence the transmission of genes to an organism's offspring is the basis of the inheritance of a phenotypic trait.

A gene is a complex locus. It is also the smallest unit that can undergo mutational changes or take part in recombination.

Allele- Alleles are the alternative forms of genes which are present on the same locus of a homologous pair of chromosomes and regulate the expression of different forms of a character. Different alleles can result in different phynotypic traits.
