The difference is same as that between coulomb's law and Gauss' s law .

Coulomb's law and Gauss's law both help us in determining charge distribution , but Gauss's law is easier and convenient in the sense that it uses symmetry , eg . spherical , cylindrical , cuboidal , etc .

Similarly . Biot sarvarts law and Ampere' s law , both help in finding magnetic field distribution , but Ampere's law take symmetry into account as it's a close line integral ( Amperian loop ) . both laws can be used to calculate the net magnetic field produced at a point by various distribution of current .

Using biot sarvarts law can get complicated as even computer would be needed for calculation in certain cases , but if some symmetry in distribution can be discovered , Ampere' s law can be utilised .
