Analgesics literally mean pain killers. These medicines are just used to relieve pain. Simplest example is an analgin/aspirin tablet and a crocin or a paracetamol tablet. Now it's easily visible that these can be consumed orally also. These may or may not be associated with sedation i.e sleepiness and in usually permitted doses do not lead to unconsciousness.
Anaesthetics are medicines used to induce and maintain Anesthesia, simply speaking unconsciousness in a person in usually permitted doses. Anaesthesia these days is given by uusing various medicines with different actions together, leading to immobility in a patient. Balanced Anesthesia includes 4 c,omponents namely sedation, analgesia, amnesia and muscle relaxation. Thus various anaesthetic drugged are available with predominantly one of the aforementioned uses. Some drugs have more than one use also. For example one drug can be both sedative +analgesic+amnesic.
