An analog optic fibre communication does not require a DAC ( digital to analog converter ) at the transmitting end and an ADC ( analog to digital converter ) at the receiving end. The system receives the signal directly in the form of voltages ( eg. 5V for a 1 and no voltage for 0 ).
In case of a digital optic fibre communication, we require a DAC and An ADC since the bits need to be converted to voltages for the transmitters to work.
