APICAL MERISTEMS:-
• Apical meristem occur at the apices of roots and stems and constitute the growing points of plants.
• They bring about an increase in length of the plant body, apical organs and the primary body as a whole.

LATERAL MERISTEMS:-
•Lateral meristem occur at the sides of the plant body lying parallel to it's longitudinal axis.
• They are responsible for increase in thickness or girth of the organs in which they occur.

Apical Meristem

1-This meristem is located at the growing apices of main and lateral shoots and roots.

2-They are mostly primary meristem

3-There meristem give rise to grow in length.

4-Eg:-shoot apex,root apex.

1-This meristem is located on the sides of plant organs.

2-They are primary as well as secondary in origin

3-These meristem give rise to growth in girth.

4-Eg:-Vascular cambium,cork cambium
