commercial cinema is often made on formulaic lines with certain tropes like comedian, a villain, a romantic subplot, song and dance elements etc. art house cinema are more rooted more character oriented and don’t fall into hero villain trope often. even their songs are not set pieces but rather a part of narrative. art house cinema often delve into more niche and often abstract themes that commercial cinema may not give spacepartly because commercial cinema caters to a larger audience to earn money. art house cinema has a larger prerogative than just earning money and often these films caters to art of film making (making them more viable for film festivals and award ceremonies)
