Assignment refers to allocation of different jobs to different people in the organization. This process of allocation should be undertaken in such a manner which would lead to overall minimum processing time leading to overall higher efficiency and productivity.
Whereas transportation is associated with transportation method which include selection of routes in a product distribution network between the manufacture unit and distribution warehouse located in different regions or locally .
Assignment problem comes with single allocation in a particular row or a column which is not the case with transportation problem . They are not under any restriction.
In assignment problem management focuses on assigning jobs to different people whereas in transportation method, management seek for a distribution route, which would help in keeping the cost in check and maximize their profit.
