Thrust is the total force applied. Pressure is the force applied per unit area.

Let me explain the difference using an example. In golf courses, one is not supposed to wear high heels. This is to ensure you don’t damage the grass. Why is the grass at greater risk when you wear heels?

When you walk/stand on the grass (in whichever shoes) you apply the same downward force or thrust. But the total force is distributed over a larger area on the grass when you wear flat shoes. In contrast when you are wearing heels, the same force is distributed over a smaller area. The pressure is therefore much more intense at the point of contact between your heels and the ground and can damage the grass. Pressure is therefore a measure of the intensity of force/thrust.

Atmospheric pressure is defined as the force per unit area against a surface by the weight of the air above that surface. whereas upthrust is a force with which a liquid or gas pushes up against an object that is floating in it.
