difference:

  • atoms have no charge in them, that is they are electrically neutral whereas ions have a particular charge in them.
  • atoms may or may not have stable electronic configuration but ions always posses a stable electronic configuration.
  • atoms may or may not exist independently whereas ions exist bfreely in nature.
