Axial tilt, otherwise known as the obliquity of the ecliptic, is the difference in the angle between the Earth's orbital axis and its rotational one. Or in simpler terms, it's the fact that the Earth is tilted - the Earth rotates around an axis that isn't at 90 degrees to the direction it orbits around the Sun.
