Difference between backspace key and delete key?
Answers
Answer:
As far as I know, on Windows computers, backspace and delete are two different keys with different functions while on Apple computers, the key that does the function of a backspace key is called delete as well.
Now I can't answer about Apple computers since I haven't used one ever in my life, I can surely tell you about Windows.
The backspace key is used to delete or erase the last letter/number/character you entered by typing. Long-pressing it can speed up the process by going on deleting the last character until the key is stopped being pressed. On the other hand, the delete key performs two functions. One, it can erase the typed characters (but unlike backspace, it erases the characters from the opposite direction, i.e., it removes characters from the position of the cursor towards the right. Backspace does the reverse. It removes the character from the direction of the position of the cursor to its left). Two, it can temporarily delete files by sending them directly to the Recycle Bin Folder. Just select any file/folder in Windows Explorer and press the delete key. It goes directly to the Recycle Bin without any confirmation dialogue box. However, if you wish to permanently delete the selected file/folder, press the keys ‘Shift+Delete’. You may be prompted with a confirmation dialogue box asking if you really want tl delete the file permanently. This way,the file gets removed from your system without the hustle of first moving it to the Bin and again deleting it from there.
Also, the delete key is used for the famous combo ‘Ctrl+Alt+Del’ in case your computer stops responding. It opens up the Task Manager Window. While the backspace key is used for the combo ‘left Alt+Backspace’ in Adobe Photoshop. It fills the selected layer (not in case of text and similar layer types), most notably the background layer, with the foreground colour that is already selected in the two colour boxes at the bottom of the toolbox.
