Basic industry are those that serves as the backbone of any economy as they supply raw material, or products to manufacture other commodities, for instance steel and iron industries.

While Consumer industry are those which directly sell their products directly to consumers without following the chain of distribution for instance automobile company selling their product by eliminating middle men directly to consumers.

The product of basic industry is used as the raw material of other industries while the product of consumer industry is consumed by the consumers themselves.
