Difference between benign and malignant tumors

Tumors are of two types:

Benign Tumor:

  • It is non-cancerous.
  • It does not show metastatis.
  • Growth stops after reaching a certain size.
  • Less fatal.

Malignant Tumor:

  • It is cancerous.
  • It shows metastatis and invades other body parts.
  • Growth occurs indefinitely.
  • Highly fatal.

Tumours: The repeated division of cancerous cells, form a large mass of cells called tumours.

Metastatis: Cancer cells move from tumor to new sites through blood and form secondary tumour. This invasion of cancer cells from one part to other parts by the body fluids is called metastatis.
