Open hearth process

  • It is the type of furnace.
  • It produce steel from excess carbon and some impurity which burnt out from pig iron.
  • Production of steel is difficult process due to the melting point is very high, it is insufficient for normal furnaces and fuels.
  • To overcome these problems by open hearth process was introduced.
  • Excessive nitrogen does not display the steel, it was easy to control, and it permits the refining and melting of steel and iron.

Bessemer process

  • It was first industrial process, which is inexpensive for the production of steel from pig iron.
  • It removes the impurities from iron by oxidation of molten iron.
  • Oxidation increases the temperature for the mass of  iron and has in molten.
