Hydrocortisone is a weaker steroid and can be used on the face (never the scalp). I use it on his body when there are tiny little patches that I think they can contain.
Betaderm/betamethasone is a stronger steroid and shouldn't go on the face area. If your LO scratches something on the body open OR it looks infected do not use this. It will make the infection spread like crazy. Betaderm is my go to because they typically give it as an ointment. It moisturizes and stimulates the body to get the skin back to normal.
I typically use the betaderm for two weeks and if there are still patches I pull all the steroids off for at least ten days to give his skin a break.

Secondly, emphasise that all steroids are not of the same potency: clobetasone is five times more potent than hydrocortisone and betomethasone is five times more potent that clobetasone, and clobetasal is more potent again. betomethasone and clobetasal.
