Black soil

  • It has excessive presence of humus in it.
  • Black soil is found in the central, western and southern states of India.
  • Cotton can be grown in black soil.

Sandy soil

  • It lacks humus and does it is not fertile.
  • It is mainly found in Himalayan region, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and also in Penninsular India, Eastern Ghats.
  • Vegetable root crops like carrots, parsnips and potatoes favour sandy soils.
